Vintage black gowns with fringe; bobby socks, saddle shoes and poodle skirts of the 1950’s, bell bottom pants with bright paisley tops, beads and headbands of the late 1960’s and 1970’s; luncheon dresses for women and daytime dresses worn by young girls of the 1950’s; and evening gowns from the 1980’s, there was an outfit that represented all the decades from the 1930’s through the 1980’s.  The “Vintage Style Show and Afternoon Tea” was held on Sunday afternoon, November 9th at the Riverview United Methodist Church social rooms.  Carolyn Walker, President of the society, welcomed the ninety guests that gathered and invited them, “to enjoy the afternoon of fun, food and reminiscing”.

The hall had been transformed into a fashion history arena with many vignettes of clothing, pictures and articles of local people displayed.  From the wedding ensemble’s and pictures of Linda and Leo Cooper, Wilma and Dick Hepburn and Madge and Ed Rock; to children’s clothing made by Linda McFerren’s mother, Janet Joy, children’s clothing from the families of Paul and Joann Barnes and Charles and Dorothy Craig.  For everyone’s enjoyment there were displays that included complimentary needle cards given out by a local clothing store, The Famous, from the 1930’s and a boxed set of “Evening in Paris” perfume.  The walls were lined with family items, old doll carriages, books and a featured item was the 1936 prom dress of Dr. Jane Shaffer.

Sherran Call, a vintage clothing proprietor in New York City, who recently moved back to the area, was the event coordinator and commentator.  Sherran currently sells her vintage clothing, including many designer labels, from her home based business.  The models included:  Rita Carnahan, April Crew, Jane Dever, Rachel Freeland, Victoria Freeland, Regina Jewett, Josey Jones, Mindy Jones, Sondra Nestor, Rita Riley, Becca Schaming, Muriah Turner and Danette Wilson.   Styling the models hair from the 1930’s look to the 1980’s look was Rebecca VanNuys.

Special decade fashion news and events were presented throughout the show.  Co-chairpersons for the event were Linda McFerren and Carolyn Walker.   Dani Swearingen, of “Let’s Do Tea”, provided a wide array of tea’s for the guests to enjoy.
